Re: Whats so damn atheistical about the dead?
It's perfectly reasonable to have personal beliefs that are firmly (ha-ha) in the camp of agnosticism (that's me; i.e. anyone who claims to "know" doesn't; none of us knows what happens when we die; maybe nothing, maybe everything the religions say, but we DON'T know, and probably we're not supposed to), and STILL love and appreciate the lovely religiously-tinged tunes Jerry sang and played .
Anyone who rejects the version of "My Sisters and My Brothers" from the Pure Jerry '77 release just b/c it's spiritual and refers to religion is missing the point entirely.
Ultimately, I believe everyone should be allowed to worship as they see fit and believe what they want as long as it doesn't entail harming "non-believers".
and I'll give the late great Frank Zappa the final word:
"You can't run a country by a book of religion
Not by a heap
or a lump or a smidgen
Of foolish rules of ancient date
Designed to make you all feel great
While we fold, spindle, and mutilate
those unbelievers from a neighboring state."
